Early Life and Political Career

Droupadi Murmu, born Droupadi Biranchi Tudu on June 20, 1958, in Odisha, India, made history by becoming India's first tribal woman president.

Her political journey began as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1997. She served as a councilor in the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat from 1997 to 2000 before being elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 2000.

Governor of Jharkhand

Murmu served as the Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021, making her the first woman to hold this position in the state.

Presidency

In July 2022, Murmu was elected as the 15th President of India, receiving 64.03% of the votes cast by members of Parliament and state legislative assemblies.

As president, Murmu represents the nation's unity and integrity and is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces.
